I'm pretty stoked about this Utica M4 bayonet I found on eBay; just had to share my good fortune with you all. Under $100 for the bayonet and scabbard! Unfortunately, the scabbard is the later model (V.P. marked), but I can live with that.

Looks nice, any more pics of the guard markings and pommel. I'm still looking for a decent Utica for my collection.

Happily! I'll take some more pictures of it this evening and share them with you. The one shown is from the listing.

Blade looks like it was rough-honed and sharpened, either in the battlefield or later in peacetime. In any case, I've always been more drawn to worn and weathered examples than those of a pristine, as-issued nature.

Deals are what keeps us out there. I found an unsharpened one for $50 at a show last year or so.
My sig: Seen an IP or S'G'? Add it to my registry. We'll check consecutives.

Since I retired over four years ago, I have more time to spend searching for deals. That was a good score you made, especially since you are very excited about. Over half the time I pay too much, but when I am able to grab something undervalued, I act like I made the deal of the century. If I can get something for 20 bucks under FMV, I'm elated.Smile

Last fall at a small local show (as things were beginning to open up post peak covid) I picked up 2 M3 trench knives and an M4 bayonet for $280. All were in good to very good condition with correct scabbards. I thought I hit the lottery!

I'm sorry for the delay in posting these. I got put on TCCC timeout because I apparently don't play well with others.

I can imagine! What a steal! There's nothing better than walking away from a transaction knowing you made out like a bandit.

I checked out a pawn shop in a little town about 100 miles north of here while working in the area. They had what they were advertising as a WW1 trench knife (looked like an ice pick with a spiked hand guard-- pretty wicked!) for less than half the price they typically sell for. It was tempting, but I'm not a gambling man, so I decided to pass. There's some pretty convincing fakes out there!

I forgot to mention, one of the M3s was a straight guard, smooth handle Case with only a small dent in one side of the handle. That one was worth the price of all three by itself!

Yep, Nice bayonet, I was watching that one on ebay, but the listing said it sold for $120 plus $14 shipping?

I started to go for an example of each makers, but decided to go for examples from each country, so far I have US leather, plastic and rubber, early italian, Dutch, China, Argentinian, and some I can’t remember right now
