I got my Inland Div. M1 carbine import with only one beat up and faded magazine that looks like it dates back to the second world war or Korea. That's all that came with it. However, I took quite a leap of faith by purchasing some 15 and 30 shot magazines from keepshooting dot com that fit and look really well. But I have not shot my carbine yet after I got it back from Fulton Armory for refurbishing. I have been too busy with my FAL rifle break-in.
So basically I am hoping I did good by buying these mags. I hope they shoot as well as they look and fit into the mag bay. Anyone with experience with this brand name? Anyone recommend anything better? Original and unused mags from the 40s and 50s are hard to come by now. I did take them all apart to make sure the springs were not put in backwards (some were). The upward end of the springs have to be at the very back of the mag follower, otherwise the bolt might not pick up the rounds very well or at all. I do know that much about carbines anyway.

One problem, at least with Korean made mags, is identifying the actual manufacturer. It seems that when we buy them, even if they have the same part number and packaging, they are not always the same. So far I've done OK with the ones I've bought, although I did have to figure out why one didn't feed the 2nd to last round in my Underwood. After figuring out the problem, made some measurements and tweaked the top close to specs. These were not fresh mags so can't say its the fault of manufacture or not. I also have a used Clark for S'G' mag that had different issue, which I think I've fixed with some file and stone work on the follower. That one came with my SG so again, maybe it worked OK when new. However I have noticed differences in amongst the government purchased ones as well. Just like the carbines themselves, each company cut, stamped, and assembled using different machines and methods.

keep shooting mags are the only commercial ones I have had a positive experience with. I had issues with the Korean mags while others seem to like them. USGI 15 round mags are still readily available and somewhat cheap. 30 round mags can be found, and if you shop around you can find a deal. They AYP marked mags, which I believe were Danish military made, are of very good quality. I have several of those and USGI 30 round mags, and they perform equally great. I have yet to buy a “new old stock” or “new in wrap” surplus magazine, some of my USGI mags are wel used but perform perfect. Just make sure the mag ain’t filthy on the inside and the springs is oriented in the correct direction in the magazine.

It looks like mags keepshooting dot offers are standard KCI Korean made import mags. Generally their decent mags for range work and if you get the ones with WWII M1 style followers I would use those as needed for SHTF work after testing them.
There have been issues with soft metal in the catch tabs. See this for what I mean If you decide to buy more try here, these are a better price than what you paid |
