Hello everyone, I recently picked up an Inland Carbine SN:479686. I have a couple questions on it, I noticed the stock has a U on it as a cartouche, is that for Underwood? Their is a red grease mark on the bolt, does that mean it has been unfired since it's rebuild? I also was trying to track down where it was rebuilt at and I was unable to. Any help would be appreciated on what I have picked up!

The .U. is a stamp from the Underwood carbine rebuild program. It is not an acceptance stamp.
If you mean the red circle on the bolt face, it's from primer sealant. It's been fired post rebuild, but looks to be in great condition. Congrats! |

Thanks for the info, I figured it had been fired since rebuild I was just confused on what exactly caused the circle! Hopefully next weekend i can take it to the range.

I see you have the Brown subcontract. I thought you might have the subcontract barrel in that serial range. At one time I had two Inlands with the BI barrels. They were in the 4,9 serial range.

Nice looking carbine. Looks like a pretty typical mix of parts. Looks like it hasn’t been fired much since Underwood rebuilt it. I’d bet it was sold through the DCM in the early 60s.
