Maybe not unusual, but new-to-me. I believe this receiver to have spent some time with the Bavarians or Austrians. Notice the rectangular marks equally spaced in the front and rear of the sight. It's not the sight that came with it and was obtained as a stripped receiver. There are no staking marks on the dovetail, only these equally spaced rectangular marks. Could it have been an effort to tighten-up the dovetail slot? I installed this sight, and it fits nice and tight.

Interesting rear sight. Looks like a type 3 base and knob with type 2 aperture and ramp.
As far as the markings, I’m sure I see what your are talking about.

It is a”bastardized” rear sight. One I just stuck on a Winchester receiver I built a Tokarev on. I think it is Iver Johnson in origin. It works and holds it’s setting.
