Hi Collectors,

So I recently bought a 1942 inland US-EU import from my gunstore that deals with a german importer (http://www.waffen-jansen.de/) which translating from german forums has a good reputation for quality M1 carbines and Garands in europe.

Receiver serial is 470381 which put it in the first million Inland batch in 1942.

Happy with the purchase, overall great condition:

I was expecting a recent rebuilt, however looking at hand guard screws, you can tell theve been untouched for a long long time:

More pics around the carbine:

Trigger group also looks 1940s.  (Magazine is cut down to 10 rounds following our laws.)

The barrel has import markings "US-DE-AGJ-2018.."

Translating from the german importers site:

"We were able, perhaps for the last time, to collect a larger batch of original U.S. Buy M 1 carbine from abroad. In our estimation it was probably the last available lot available on the market."

I also emailed him, but he wouldn't give me any more information.

Does anyone have any clues to what origin this carbine could have?

Post ww2 rebuild stockpile maybe?

David

Congratulations; nice looking carbine!
Any idea what the `CIP N` marking on top of the bolt and left hand side of the receiver indicate?

CIP is firearm regulation organisation, mostly a EU thing:

Your Inland looks like a typical post war rebuild that has been proofed for the European civilian market. There are no handguard screws, your picture shows the handguard rivets, they are not intended to be removed.
Also believe that the 3 crowns in the shield represent Koln (Cologne) Germany.

Just out of curiosity, what value does a carbine like this have in the US now?

The demand has shot up on these the last couple of years. There are a lot of factors, but in general it would likely sell ~$1200 for an Inland rebuild in nice condition. Some sell for more, some less, my estimate is based on what I've seen sell on forums, auction sites, gun shows. Future, who knows?

Very cool! How are the gun laws in Spain? Is it next to impossible to obtain a firearm, is a permit required or anything like that?

Gun laws in Spain are pretty average for Europe I think, not as a bad as the UK, but very strict compared with USA.

Basically anyone over 18 without criminal history can apply for a license, though the system has a lot of hoops and requirements to filter down those that really want the guns. About four months of waiting for the paperwork, an exam organized by the police, a certified gun safe (150lbs and up and 350€ and up), and a hunting license for long guns. For short guns also you have to be member of a gun club and federation, and compete in target competitions and more paperwork.  Pistols really are more of a hassle.

Pistol calibers up to 44 magnum, normal pistol magazines, rifles all medium cartridges OK in semiauto with magazines of 10, or 3 depending. Large calibers generally only bolt action; 308 is only allowed bolt action, whereas 30-06 is allowed semi, not everything makes sense.

I know that the UK really has tough laws, no medium caliber pistols at all, no semi rifles above 22lr. Historic guns like the m1 carbine all have the gas port blocked to convert them to similar to bolt action.

Public opinion generally accepts old school rifles, and frawn upon black rifles and hand guns.  Yet public opinion generally have no idea at all about guns and think a 22lr mp5 looks more dangerous than an m1 garand.

Damn! I thought it was tough in France, I can see we’re finally not that tough compare to others in EU!

For the CIP thing, all weapons imported from any country has to be marked that way, been like that for a few years. In your case, coming from Germany, normal marking. For historic guns remaining in the country, no marking required by EU.

Hi DBlongrifle,  Any chance you can post a pic of the barrel date?  I love Spain, I lived at Torrejon Air Base for all of 1978 and 79.  Beautiful country.   Rgds, Mike
