The M1 Carbine Bolt Tool can frequently be found on eBay and other online auctions.
I wonder how to ascertain if an M1 Carbine Bolt Tool is a WWII manufacture or a post WWII manufacture?
I have not been able to find any documentation so far.
Any help will be appreciated.

The commonly sold version was developed late in the war.
Even in 1945, other techniques for disassembly were being circulated.

As Matt said the commonly sold version (the T5) was developed late wartime, the 1st 100 pilot models were sent to Ordnance around June 1945. With that said it is likely that the majority of the USGI T5's being sold are post war.

If anyone was just wanting to know how to tell real usgi from reproduction or new manufacturer bolt tools, I always look at the end of the threaded bolt on the tool that secures the bolt in the tool. The new manufactured ones are flat on the end of the threaded bolt and the USGI ones are tapered to dull point if that makes sense.hth
