I have been struggling getting a nice fit on my reproduction SARCO stock assembly. I understand the problems involved. Fitting may be required. All is falling in nicely except the top cover with original Inland barrel, receiver, trigger housing etc. My question is: Do any of the covers ever fit the way you want them to? Tight, secure, and in place is a better way to put it. I have looked at many pictures of completed projects and all still seem to have problems in that area? Original and reproduction's. I don't see many with getting the perfect fit? The main screw seems to be all and everything to hold downward tension on the protective cover as well as (alignment?) Over time, I could see that as a loose fit? The main screw or bolt does have a bottom shoulder on it. So too me, it will only hold tension for so long with it's interference fit?
Am I asking too much on the fit? Never have I held or seen an original. Maybe it's the way it is with mix matching parts? Just curious is all. It would be nice to fret no more. Thanks again to all.

Having just put together one of these stocks with all GI parts, mostly unused, I found the recoil plate top cover to fit very nicely. Good alignment all around, nothing sloppy or loose. There are a number of pictures posted on the thread I started for the stock.

Do you have the screw down far enough?

Thanks for the reply. I have been watching your thread and nice job on all finds and assembly. Pretty amazing with all your finds. It is nice work indeed.
I'm still in the early stage of fitting all, but yes with the answer. Is the screw or bolt all the way down?
I need to learn or find the app to send pics. I hate computers, my bad.
I missed or can't view your pictures as of Nov 14th. Your last picture of it on display came out good.
All lines look good to me, but I am green enough to not know what I'm looking for as well. To me, all should be flush with wood? You have a gap of equal spacing. Also, not knowing of course. Have you tried it with a full barrel and receiver assembly? The sweet match between the receiver and recoil plate changes things as well for the overall top plate cover geometry. At least with the one I'm working on.
I'm just trying to get some input overall and hope more will chime in as well. Many thanks for your reply. As said: Maybe I just expect to much for that cover fit. I've seen some really ugly fitted ones to the nice and tight. I'm just trying to figure out how that plate stays put over time. Thanks again.
