Slingwell marking is very interesting. In CCNL-323 there was a report of a Q-RMC stock where the Q was Xed out. Presumably it was to go to QHMC but either came back or never left the RO factory and Xed out for RMC usage. Here is an example Since there have been reports of handguards also marked that way. The OPs stock seems to be an example where the the Q was obliterated. However, there is a Q over the R in RMC. Check the link at the bottom of the pictures for another carbine a few thousand away from this one. There is mention about that splashed RMC buttplate and discussion on that.

Looks original. Notice the sounded edge of the hammer plunger very common on Rock Ola’s. Now take a tooth brush and some Kroil and clean it up. No steel wool or anything abrasive.

Concur that its a correct Rock-Ola buttplate for this rifle. Both of my Rock-Ola's from this production timeframe have this same style buttplate.
I didnt know that was considered "rare" though... Is that because so many early Rock-Ola's eventually went thru Refurb and Rearsenal post WWII?
