Interesting that the one soldier has his mags on his back side.

possibly he moves them around so if he’s belly down or crouched over really far he still has access without exposing any vital organs? Just my though on it.

Interesting the soldier standing appears to have an empty holster.

It is easy folks, pull out that family album, open google.  Who knows, someone might stumble on some "Newsworthy" item!

I don't have a photo but I do have a story. I'm recuperating from shoulder surgery and watching a WWII documentary. A military film clip ran of General Joseph Stilwell getting off a transport in the Burma campaign and immediately slinging an M1 Carbine. Looked like Joe knew his surroundings!

I found a couple of pictures of General Stilwell. Except for Churchill, Eisenhower and Bradley, he's the highest ranking person shown with a carbine.

Pick one.

Here is a photo I came across some time back I thought you all may like. The story goes that this picture is from the ETO in '44-'45. I find it especially interesting as the carbine in the photo has both an I cut stock and a Type 2 rear sight. Field replacement perhaps?

I LIKE IKE. His shooting position with right elbow held high. Same stance that I seen taught in an old army marksmanship training video.

Churchill's shooting stance is probably a holdover from years of grouse hunting in the moors of England.

Great picture!. Don Hillhouse did a series of rear sights in the ETO. This started in the paper newsletters and continued to our online Newsworthy section

I'm not sure how to edit posts on here, but I did get some dirt on the picture. According to what I found, the photo is of a guy from the 89th and was taken in 1945 in Werdau, Germany. Here is where I found that out:
http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n348/wrmoore2004/img013.jpg

To make up for it, Here is a nice photo from the PTO. These two nurses (I believe army?) are cleaning a carbine that coincidentally has an adjustable rear sight but a type 1 band. I think I can see a high wood area on the stock too, however I am not certain.

So many pictures I am getting lost on where to comment first. All great stuff!
Remember we are trying to do one picture a day and see how long we can keep it going.

@ 1989LX  The picture is 2 Army Nurses Cleaning A Carbine, Pacific Theater, February 1945.
The carbine is a S'G', look at the receiver ear!
This was on the cover of CCNL 379 from July 2014

@ Desert Storm Day 20, I love the pictures of the boys hamming it up!

@ David Milisocks picture, I see a second carbine at the back of the line.

@ Jack, I have seen the Churchill, I do not believe I ever saw the Stillwell(s)

Great stuff!

Detroit Riots July 1967
Photographer: Tony Spina
National guardsman Gary Ciko of Hamtramck watches for snipers as buildings burn on Linwood Street, Detroit, Michigan.
Photographer's Note: "Bottles and rocks were being thrown from rooftops and windows. As I edged along the buildings to avoid flying debris, I captured this young National Guardsman's look and stance, so expressive of the event's tension and fear. This became my lead photograph for the story. It was used all over the world and was part of the entry that won the Pulitzer Prize for the Free Press."

In our "Where Are They Today" post we touched on the Connecticut flood of 1955 which took out a great many buildings in many towns along the Mad and the Housatonic Rivers.
On building was one of the Underwood facilities in New Hartford CT.

Here are a few pictures of the National Guard that was called into service to go with the post above
