A friend has quite a few 30 carbine magazines (a lot) that he would like for us to take a look at and ID as too the mfg, we can do that but is their any reference list as too what are the most desireable for the collector market and maybe some type of value ?? None of these are new in the wrap but seem that all are in very good condition.

Pictures would help, so would descriptions of any markings. Also are they thirty or fifteen round magazines?
If you go on the Civilian Marksmanship's webpage for M1 Carbine sales, they have a link with quite a bit of information about M1 carbine magazines, just to get you started. Link is below: |

While some are certainly more common than others I'm not sure which are especially sought other than the "T" marked mags and of course Irwin Pedersen. Here's a couple really links for maker codes that covers most, if not all, the codes on the USGI 15 round magazines. I'm providing links rather than copy-paste as the lists are long however I would recommend keeping a copy and also printing if you're helping ID a bunch.

there has been a flood of excellent/nos mags the past year+ as over 5,000 were found in Germany and were sold mostly on the CMP forum. So demand is way down, mags in good condition will only sell in the $20 range unless you take to ebay, lie about how many rounds they hold. Then you might get more.

Those folks over there on e-bay sometimes do that for a reason. Since they want let you list anything above a 10-round capacity, I think sellers deliberately do it in order to get one listed. I know I've seen 30's listed as 5's. It can be a pretty good deal for a buyer, if he knows what he's looking at and can get it for a good price. BUT....you usually don't get much there for a fair price. I purchased 2 magazines that were listed as 10-rounder's for my AR 9-mil. I really wanted 30's but I got them for half-price off the manufacturers price...so I bought them. When I received them...they had "10 Rounds" clearly stamped in the case, but had been modified to 30's. Sometimes....you luck-out...LOL.
When you shop for gun-parts over there...U really have to know what you're looking at whether the seller knows or not. |
