I noticed this gas piston on ebay, much shorter than a USGI piston. "M-1 CARBINE RIFLE PARTS OP-ROD PISTON" Curious to know what this thing really goes to? Is it to one of the commercial carbines?

I think has been shortened for manual operation only.
Anyone who buys one is likely to be disappointed.

I vote for that. Conversion to straight pull. Universal actually had a two-piece piston that worked either way.

Yep, I think that is the only thing that makes a little bit of sense, that is if a single shot carbine makes any sense. Thanks guys.

Not really a "single" shot; more like a "slide action repeater".

Your right Don, not sure why I wrote single shot. And as you said if someone ever buys it they are likely going to be pretty disappointed.
