This 1959 mail order advertisement for $97.50, add $10.00 for a specially selected model, for an M1 rifle was at a time when there were no student collectors of the Garand. Years later knowledgeable collectors like Billy Pyle would identify the M1 rifles in this advertisement as being Lend Lease M1 rifles given to Britain during WWII and today worth many thousands of dollars. I believe these M1 rifles were imported from Britain by Sam Cummings, owner of INTERARMCO later to become INTERARMS.

For anyone interested there was an article in the Garand Collectors Association volume 30, issue 4, fall 2016. Pretty interesting reading.

These original built Garands were a bargain for anyone with a crystal ball at the time before DCM began the "once in a lifetime" USA rebuilt Garands program.
But $100 was a hefty sum in those days as well. Wish I had the GCA article, as they are always concise and well researched.
Beam me back Scotty!

Yep, a mortgage payment in '59 or $993.50 today to be exact.
