Many early Inland barrels had characters stamped on the barrel flat and its thought these may be an Inspectors initial. My early Inland 270's barrel dated 5-42 has both the Ordinance bomb and also a double struck serif "S", while my other early Inland 3446 with its 6-42 barrel has an "R" struck in this same location. Ive seen other early Inland barrels with an "R", but haven't seen any others with "S". Does anyone else have an Inland barrel with this "S" type character??? |

What date is on your 1652’s barrel that has the R stamp? Is it a 6–42?

I scrubbed my photo collection of early inland barrels and saw that Marcus has a 5–42 Inland barrel that has the S stamp on it as well. That’s the only other one I could find though.
Does anyone have an idea/estimate of how many 5–42 barrels Inland made? |

According to the data sheet posted in the thread below, Inland 342 has a S in front of the piston.

Thanks Marine!
That means there are at least three known 5-42 Inland barrels that have this S stamp on them, and I haven’t heard of any other letter stamps being on 5–42 barrels other than an S. Ive seen 6–42 barrels have an R or other number stamps, so I’m thinking the S was probably just used on the 5–42 produced barrels.
Is there information anywhere on the approximate number of 5–42 barrels that Inland produced? |
