I have a ' 78 Iver Johnson M1 Carbine that was a gift from my Father in 1978 or '79. The only thing I knew about back then was to shoot it. When I got involved with USGI Carbines and learned how to take one all apart and reassemble it. I wanted more details about it. I came across these websites about ALL Carbines and answered the questions that he Posted and he replied what year it made, where it was made and some really great information about it. When I found out it was manufactured in '78 and was Iver Johnson first series I decided to take it apart and look what it had. I was shocked at all the USGI parts it had. Till this day it is one of my favorite Carbines to Shoot. I will never part with this Carbine as it was a gift from my Father and the fact that it is still a reliable Carbine to have and shoot whenever I want. So, if you have or come across a Iver M1 Carbine get the History of it at http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_ij.html and see what you have. These Carbines are going up in Price and are to me the better of the Commercial Carbines.
