Here’s a new to me M1. I’m very happy with it as it’s my first. So it will always be special to me. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on it.

A very nice Rock Island Arsenal rebuild carbine with clear RIA cartouche on the stock. A true arsenal "mixmaster", congratulations. Don't change anything, it's history.
Thank for. sharing.

Very nice indeed and I agree with all. Don't change anything.
Question for all just for my own education. Shouldn't an RIA rebuild include a round bolt? I myself like and use the flat bolts. Just asking. |

Not necessarily, as long as the flat bolt was still serviceable it could/would still be used during the rebuild process.

Thanks Wayne, good to know. I have in the past been subject to that question with show and tell.

At the time of rebuild, if a part was not declared obsolete it could be used in the rebuild. Costs of a rebuilt was kept to a minimum.

The round bolts were reserved for M2s. They were not to be held back if needed for the M1

It's not at all uncommon to see "obsolete" parts in rebuilds. Hell, even parts that were superseded (for allgedly better ones) in production continued to show up for undetermined lengths of time, in other words, producing carbines or at times rebuilding them to acceptable specs was paramount.

Many thanks to all that chimed in on my question. It was an interesting topic.
I didn't mean to steal Winter Ranger's thunder or post. He did indeed make a good pick for his first carbine. I'm sure he is now hooked as well eh' |
