I am attempting to make my carbine as reliable as possible.  A trip to the range this weekend revealed it didn’t reliably chamber the 1st round when inserting a fresh magazine.   They weren’t even loaded to capacity.  My 30 round magazine had 29 rounds in it and malfunctioned as did one of my 15 round mags.

I disassembled and cleaned them and made sure the springs were in correctly.

I want better magazines.  What’s the best?  I don’t care about cost.  Thanks!!!

People do seem to have more issues with the 30-rounders and short-loading to 29 is not much of an under-load. Carbine magazines can be notorious for problems, you drop one on the lips and it might require tweaking again. Compared to the vast majority of magazines, the carbine mag is down right flimsy. There are other things that can cause feeding problems like the mag-catch or spring position. I agree with Wayne on the original USGI spec. 15-rounders and some of those are better than others. I find the RUGG to be among the strongest and the MN to be more fragile. There are better choices, but one must accept reduced capacity.
